Ginger Berman, Founder
I have been caring for and loving dogs for most of my life. I remember when I was 7 years old and found a little black and white pup on the street of Philadelphia. I brought "Buttons" home, cleaned him up, and my love of dogs took off! After a long detour into the teaching and publishing worlds, I found my true calling in 2000 with Brooklyn Woof Walkers. My work brings together my love of dogs, biology, nature, and "right livelihood."
I trained as biologist and teacher, with a specialty in coral reef ecology. I have studied, worked, and taught in Jamaica, the West Indies, Israel, and Brooklyn. In my role as an acquisitions editor at John Hopkins University Press, I commissioned books such as Greg Paul's Dinosaurs of the Air and Charles Michener's Bees of the World. I've lived in Brooklyn Heights for most of my adult life. Aside from my time with dogs, I am an avid reader, hike, scuba diver, and music lover. One of my favorite books is My Dog Tulip by J.R. Ackerley. I have traveled widely, a dog at my side where I go.
Day camp consists of 8 to 10 hours of individual care. Day campers usually get dropped off by owners on their way to work, then accompany other dogs on their daily rounds, take a nap or two, run out for a late afternoon or evening stroll, wrestle over a squeaky toy, enjoy dinner – it's how you'd spend a typical play day with your dog.
With home boarding, we take care of your pup as if they were our own. Your dog will enjoy three or four walks, including a mid-day romp with his usual group. Since we tend to have just a few overnight guests at a time, boarding with us offers your dog a healthy balance of socializing & relaxation. This can be especially important for dogs who don't like the stress of boarding at a noisy, hyperactive kennel. While most sleepovers happen at our place, we can also arrange sleepovers at your place.
Depending on weather, your dog's age and health, and medicine schedule, a typical walk lasts one or two hours. We will stroll the neighborhood, spend time at one of Brooklyn Heights' beautiful dog runs, visit water fountains, play ball, and watch out for squirrels. Sometimes we pay visits to the vet or run errands to the pet store. Please add $10 for weekend, holiday, and night walks.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
“My Vizsla mutt Moses and I have been using Ginger ever since I made the move over the river. Ginger's attention to detail with Moses is unparalleled, and her genuine love for the dog is beyond obvious. Moses stays in her home when I go on trips and even accompanied her to Montauk for Thanksgiving, with shots of Moses on the beach texted to me periodically. She has catered to my (and Moses') every need."
